Great compassion

Great compassion is the root of all forms of worship.

~ His Holiness the Dalai Lama

You must not hate those who do wrong

You must not hate those who do wrong or harmful things; but with compassion, you must do what you can to stop them — for they are harming themselves, as well as those who suffer from their actions.

~ His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Responsibility does not only lie with the leaders of our countries

Responsibility does not only lie with the leaders of our countries or with those who have been appointed or elected to do a particular job. It lies with each of us individually. Peace, for example, starts within each one of us. When we have inner peace, we can be at peace with those around us. When our community is in a state of peace, it can share that peace with neighboring communities, and so on. When we feel love and kindness towards others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace.

~ Dalai Lama

It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good

It would be far more constructive if people tried to understand their supposed enemies. Learning to forgive is much more useful than merely picking up a "stone" and throwing it at the object of one's anger, the more so when the provocation is extreme. For it is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others.

~ from THE PATH TO TRANQUILITY by the Dalai Lama

The philosophy is kindness

There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple: The philosophy is kindness.

~H. H. the Dalai Lama (from Liz)

Love and compassion are necessities

Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.

~ by the Dalai Lama

Clear Light as the innermost consciousness

The grosser consciousness depends heavily on particles of matter. The subtler consciousness is more independent -- it does not depend so much on the brain. Luminance, radiance, imminence -- the three states of subtle mind -- all of these disappear in the clear Light, the innermost consciousness.

~ from THE PATH TO TRANQUILITY by the Dalai Lama

A spirit of friendship

If you maintain a feeling of compassion, loving kindness, then something automatically opens your inner door. Through that, you can communicate more easily with other people. And that feeling of warmth creates a kind of openness. You'll find that all human beings are just like you, so you'll be able to relate to them more easily. That gives you a spirit of friendship.

~ from THE ART OF HAPPINESS by the Dalai Lama

The greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love

I have found that the greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion. The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being. Cultivating a close, warmhearted feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease.

~ the Dalai Lama

In order to make my own contribution

So long as space remains,
So long as sentient beings remain,
I will remain,
In order to help, in order to server,
In order to make my own contribution.
